Description

This is the first census for Bland County which was created in 1861 out of Giles, Wythe and Tazewell Counties. The census is given in the four Civil Districts of Mechanicsburg, Rocky Gap, Seddon and Sharon which were called Townships. The names of each person living in the household is given with age, sex, occupation and other personal data like land owner and one with personal property. This is a very good census to use, if you have lost relatives in the three counties which made up this county following the Civil War. They may not have moved west, or were killed during the war, they may not have gone anywhere, but the county boundaries moved around them.
