Alamance County was formed in 1849 from Orange County. the 1850 enumeration included every person living in each household. A complete name index is given for each head of household as well as others with a different surname. Ancestors and descendants of seventy major families are included in this books. Abstracts of wills and deeds, marriages, and cemetery records are given with documentation to source of record. In addition to the seventy major families, supplemental data includes most other families in the county. The information given for many families dates from early 1700s to late 1800s, and some families are traced to their immigrant ancestor.
