This 1840 census gives only the names of the head of the household, but there is a lot of other information to be gleaned from its pages. Those living in the household are given by sex and age, the freed color are given by sex/age and then going to page two of the census, which most transcriber ignore, there is the occupations, personal data like the blind, deaf. If a school teachers then there is listed the kind of school with the number of scholars. The most important item on page two is the listing of the pensioners with ages for the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
