Description
Halifax County's 1790 Census is missing, so this tax listing is a substitute. In reading it, there are two different tax collectors who ask different questions in the process. One of them only ask two questions: 1]Number of whites in the household and 2] Number of blacks. Then the other collector asked: 1] White Souls in the household, 2] Number of dwellings and 3] Number of other buildings. There are also fifteen militia districts used to collect the taxes. These are given in the material as well.
